CoolSculpt Q&A

Why can’t I get rid of lingering body fat?

Everyone stores fat a bit differently, and many men and women have “trouble spots” where fat lingers even after a rigorous program of diet and exercise. It’s impossible to “spot train” those areas, so fatty deposits can linger even after you reach and maintain a healthy, stable weight.

You have fat cells throughout your body, many of which lie in a layer just beneath the surface of your skin. Each of those cells can expand and contract to store more or less fat, as needed.

When you burn more calories than you consume, your body taps into those fat stores for fuel. The problem lies in the fact that it is not possible to direct your body to burn fat from certain areas before others.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a body contouring treatment that uses cold temperatures to permanently eliminate a portion of targeted fat cells.

Once you’re resting on the treatment table or chair, Dr. Moradzadeh applies the CoolSculpting applicator to the treatment area, which could include:

  • Abdomen
  • Back
  • Upper arms
  • Flanks
  • Inner or outer thighs
  • Beneath your buttocks
  • Beneath your chin

Treatments take less than 30 minutes, although if you are treating multiple areas in the same appointment, your session may take longer.

You might feel a gentle suction sensation as the applicator pulls your skin into place, and extreme cold when the platform begins cooling your skin. These sensations subside quickly.

Once the time is up, Dr. Moradzadeh removes the applicator and massages the area to help break up the frozen fat cells. A significant portion of the frozen cells will be destroyed and can no longer store fat. Your body clears the fat and cellular debris through your lymphatic system.

Is CoolSculpting permanent?

Your body has a set number of fat cells. Once CoolSculpting destroys cells, they won’t regenerate. However, if you gain a considerable amount of weight after CoolSculpting, your remaining fat cells can expand, altering your results.

CoolSculpting is best suited for men and women who have achieved a healthy weight and are able to sustain those results.
