Botox Q&A

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable substance that has been in use in medical applications for more than 50 years, and in cosmetic applications for more than 15 years. It’s formulated from Clostridium botulinum, a substance found naturally in soil, rivers, and forests.

In certain concentrations, this substance is dangerous, but the volume in cosmetic applications is perfectly safe. More than 96 countries have approved the use of Botox.

How does Botox work?

Botox is a neurotoxin and works by temporarily limiting the range of motion in treated facial muscles. You can still move your face and make normal facial expressions, but your muscles cannot pull your skin into lines, wrinkles, or folds.

Your crow’s feet will smooth, and won’t create deep creasing even when you smile or laugh. Forehead lines seem to melt away, although you can still raise your brows and express emotions in the upper portion of your face.

Frown lines also smooth away, helping you look well-rested and more youthful. Botox can even create effects similar to a surgical brow lift without incisions or recovery time.

In the early days of Botox, many practitioners used a heavy hand when injecting the medication. That left some patients with a “frozen,” unnatural look. Dr. Moradzadeh has extensive experience with Botox and delivers just the right amount of medication to create beautiful results.

He is also an expert with DysportⓇ and XeominⓇ, two other popular neurotoxins that can produce similar effects as Botox to facial wrinkles.

It takes 24-48 hours for your results to develop, and you can expect your results to last around four months. At that point, you begin to notice your lines and wrinkles deepening, and can decide if you’d like to return for another round of injections.

Are Botox injections painful?

It takes three injections to treat crow’s feet and five for frown lines and forehead lines. Dr. Moradzadeh administers the injections using a very thin needle, and the entire process takes less than five minutes.

There is no need for any form of advance preparation or anesthesia. If you like, an ice cube can numb the area for a moment prior to your injections, but most men and women are able to easily tolerate treatments without any form of numbing.
